Nashville Restaurant Week!…Nom Nom Nom!

Well, it’s that time again friends. That week of the year when Nashville brings you some of the Best Deals you’ll find all year in the ‘Dining Out Scene’. Granted you should do your research and choose carefully. I’m gonna try to lead you in the right direction. Here’s some of our Restaurant Week faves, and remember we’re all about reasonably priced good eats. So if you’ve got the change then feel free to grab some of the pricier deals….

Provence Breads & Cafe Soup & bread 2.13
Fido Daily board specials plus dessert 20.13
Table 3 Two course lunch 13.13
McCabe Pub Two burgers with chips or fries 12.13
Saffire 3-course dinner 25.13

Here’s a couple of tips for getting the most out of Restaurant Week:

  • Grab a friend or plan a date night! Two is always better than one. If the establishment will allow. Split the deal & possibly hit more than one restaurant in a day.
  • Make plans to try out the lunch deals which are easy on the pocket or plan to grab some of the dinner deals with a group of friends. Then you can try several items off the menu selections. Yum!…assuming you have nice friends.

Let the gluttony pursue! And tweet us @localforkful to let us know if you find a menu that’s a must have!

2013….Changes for the better!

I’m not sure if many of you know or care, but I work full time plus in the restaurant industry. So finding opportunities to blog the way I want to has proven to be quite the challenge. Originally, I desired to visit your favorite local spots and grab interviews with the entrepreneurs behind them. But trying to find time to interview restaurant owners with my schedule has been relatively impossible. But that doesn’t mean we won’t bring you the ‘behind the scenes’ dish when applicable. This year what I desire to do is bring my followers the favorite things I enjoy from any given restaurant. Still inspired by Eating and Supporting your Local Mom & Pop, while allowing me to blog more and stress less. If you have any ideas on things you’d like to see featured on The Local Forkful food blog, drop us a couple of lines. We’d love to hear from you. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook & Twitter for the latest in restaurant news and good eats!

NY Pie…Start spreading the news!

Start spreading the news! We’re eating today. We’re gonna be apart of it…Ok, you get the point. We were just getting into town on a rainy day in August when friends introduced us to NY Pie in the West Meade Shopping Center. It’s a forgettable location nestled between a nail salon and Blue Coast Burrito, but you won’t forget about it once you get your hands on one of those delicious pies.

The Food. I’ve never been to New York but I trust that if Greg Meyer and his gang say it’s the real thing, then its the real thing. I’ve yet to visit Manny’s in Germantown or even have a slice from City House but until then, NY Pie is where it’s at for all things Pizza. Not only do they have pizza but they offer a plethora of other Italian favorites from strombolis to cannolis. And I have had the worst luck finding a good cannoli in Nashville. Luckily, NY Pie makes a pretty legit one, but I’m still on the search for the ones I found in the North End of Boston, MA.

We typically have to get a large pie with half Greek and half pepperoni mushroom. I actually believe we’ve ordered a solid cheese pie many a time because it’s just soooo good. We’ve also tried the Garlic Chicken, take it or leave it. The NY Meat And NY Special, winners every time. And don’t forget your order of Garlic Knots, those buttery balls of dough will complete your jonesing for something that is simplistically filling. And ask for an extra side of the herb garlic butter, you can never have enough to put on them. I’ve yet find a pizzeria where I’m a fan of getting it by the slice, and same here, I’m only recommending that you get a whole pie unless you see a new one fly out the wood burning oven. It’s the only way and you won’t be disappointed. Tell them Local Forkful food blog sent you.

The Ambiance. NY Pie is a quaint hole in the wall of the West Meade Shopping Center. They have a small bar minus the alcohol to offer you a front row seat to the pizza-making itself. Great family restaurant for kids. If weather permitting they have a nice patio out back with umbrellas and an aisle of four-tops on the inside. Enjoy some of the beautiful photography taken by Greg’s wife, Jessica. The place is adorned with snaps from real NY city sites. The place is buzzing with tunes that range from Sinatra to Jerry Vale & MJ.

Nashville Restaurant Week

It’s here again and I know you’ve been waiting for it like many of us. It’s Nashville Original’s Restaurant Week and time for you to break that wallet in a desperate attempt to snatch some of these deals. Many of Nashville’s favorite Eateries will be offering 2 for 1’s, bogo deals and pick 3’s from some of their regular menu options as well as daily specials. Here’s a list of all the offerings.

We haven’t tried all of them yet! But we’ll steer you in the direction of some of our favorite cheap eats.

And if you follow on Twitter some restaurants will even extend their deals into next week so choose your fav and visit more than once. In the future I would even like to see Coffee Shops get in on this, who wouldn’t love a pastry and a latte for $3.00?

Bishop’s Meat & Three…Grandma’s got competition!

I’ve already song the praises of Scoutmob before, but they’ve done it again with Bishop’s Meat & Three in Cool Spring’s. Now, the Lord knows that Nashville is inundated with the meatloaf, fried chicken joints on every corner like starving artists. And sometimes there’s so many to choose from; you just don’t know where to go. And I hope we can make that choice a little easier for you.

The Food. We like to take at least two to three trips to any place before we legitimize it’s praises. And Bishop’s is a winner. The Fried Chicken simplistically textbook, juicy, crunchy, salty and delicious. The trout almondine coated in a crispy batter adorned with slivered almonds. A carrot souffle that will make you slap yo’ momma. However, we were not fond of the smothered pork chop which had great potential but it was tough. And everybody knows if you choose the pork, you want it juicy and tender. Bishop’s offers the typical selection of sides and you’ll even find Claire Meneely’s product from Dozen Bake Shop near Bishop’s Chocolate Chess Pie. Which happens to be a great way to finish your meal.

You are definitely going to want to grab a spouse or friend to go with. Just so you can try a little bit of everything. Who says there’s no perks to marriage? Be sure to follow them on facebook!
